Brian C. Herald
Composer and arranger, Brian C. Herald is as well-rounded of a musician as they come. He started his musical pursuits at a young age and quickly developed his skills on multiple instruments. By age twelve, Brian was learning saxophone and guitar, which lead him to play in the rock band Royal Tragedy.
His passion for composing and arranging came as he entered high school. At the age of sixteen, he started arranging music for his high school’s band program. He also founded a saxophone ensemble that performed his arrangements of the music of Hans Zimmer, David R. Holsinger, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and many others. During his time at the University of Louisville, he expanded on his composing and arranging skills by studying with accomplished composer Steve Rouse, and renowned conductors Frederick Speck and Amy Acklin. Additionally, he began to truly understand the orchestra as he learned to play the clarinet, bassoon, and trombone. Over the past 10 years, Brian has arranged countless pieces for wind band, marching band, choir, as well as for full orchestra. His arrangements for saxophone ensemble have been among the most popular, being played everywhere from Taiwan to Spain.
After graduating from the University of Louisville, Brian has continued to write and arrange music, focusing most recently on music for films. His music can be heard in a number of short films including the documentary Part of Me set to premier later this year.
His music has many inspirations, from Traditional American Folk Music to Radiohead and Stravinsky to Steve Reich. Brian coalesces these diverse musical styles to create beautiful melodies to really fit each story he’s telling. Thanks to his background as a performer and educator, he has a unique viewpoint on how music can be used to tell stories, and be enjoyable to all how hear it.
